Cathy and Jaimie go to Australia

No sooner had the girls got back from a trip to New Jersey they were off again to visit old and future friends from Australia. The flight over is a 15 hour epic and all told it is about 24 hours of door-to-door travel when you factor in the Denver-LA leg and layovers. To add to the complexity, the flight to Sydney was 4 hours late leaving LA and poor Andrew Thomas, who was doing the pickup down under, hadn't been given the flight number; just the arrival time. Of course I hadn't been given the itinerary either, but after several transcontinential phone calls and a lot of internet and e-mail searching the flight number was found, and the girls got a ride home.

They arrived back at the Thomas's and thirty minutes later Cathy was wisked off to "The Farm" a short 7 hour car ride out into the bush. Andrews mate Plum lives there and times have been a bit rough what with the droughts and all, but he's been able to make ends meet one way or the other. Anyway I guess it was a pretty exciting time. Late one night a pack of killer roos stormed their camp and Cathy was forced to help fight them off. "Look out Cath, there's one coming up behind". When the saber-toothed pigs came Emma helped out. Wow...that was close.
People often ask me why Cathy never became a driving instructor. Well here's the story. Emma wanted to go for a bit of a training drive so Cathy volunteered. Things went bad pretty fast when Emma couldn't get on the brake fast enough, wrecking the truck and hit the farm house. Poor Plum!

Well it wasn't all mayhem. There was quit a bit of socializing as well. Jaimie and Cathy got to meet our new exchange student Bec and her mother Lynda. Bec is due to arrive here Sunday afternoon. One week after that we will be wisking her away on a secret adventure (can't say now 'cause she might be reading this) so stay tuned for more exciting posts in the near future.
