Mountain Fishing

The snow is finally starting to melt a bit and so last weekend several of my work buddies and I decided to go fishing. It wasn't a complicated trip. We drove up through Breckenridge and over Hooser Pass to check out some beaver ponds that some of the guys have fished before.
It is always a bit shocking these days driving up I-70 and seeing all the dead trees. Colorado is currently suffering a severe infestation of pine beetle which is devastating the lodge pole pine population in the state. Current estimate is that most of that variety of tree, which makes up a large percentage of the trees in the state, will all be dead in 3 to 5 years time. Chock it up to global warming. Our only reprieve might be some severe winters with sustained sub-teens temperatures for weeks at a time but, despite our recent heavy snow packs, does not seem to be happening.
But to the beaver ponds...fishing was kind of slow but I did manage to land 4-5 relatively small brown trout with the fly rod. Looks like there is quite a bit of snow up in the mountains still.
