Spring Break

Jaimie and Cathy had the week off for spring break so we decided to get out of town for a couple of days. First up was a trip down to Carol and Pauls southern house in Walsenburg, CO for some hiking, shooting, and checking out the wild turkey population. Over the last year about 30 wild turkeys have started visiting Carols bird feeder to "clean up"all the seed that gets kicked out by the smaller fly in crowd. They've gotten so tame now that you can actually walk fairly close to them while they are pecking on the ground. It's heading into the mating season about now and several of the big Tom's are strutting their stuff. It was kind of interesting watching their behavior. One of the funniest things we saw them do was when they apparently saw themselves reflected in the window glass down by Pauls electrical shed. The Tom's would strut around in front of the window calling, and pecking at the glass like they thought other birds were on the other side.
Hey...looks like our hosts are planting an apple tree.
Steve and Marcella Hiebert also joined us and Sunday we had a nice Easter dinner. Turns out there are several other 30 acre parcels for sale around the same area so we spent some time checking out possible cabin sites, or investment property.
Monday we all split going in different directions. Cathy, Jaimie and I headed over to Wolf Creek Pass ski area for a final ski day. It's finally starting to warm up a little so it was pretty much spring skiing conditions (ice in the morning, mush in the afternoon).
