Second Times a Charm

I couldn't let the turkeys get the best of me so I drove back down to Paul and Carols southern compound for another hunt last weekend. Long story short...he was delicious.

I was a bit surprised that there wasn't some "game" flavor.....he literally tasted like store bought. Not quit as plump as a ButterBall, but also not pumped full of antibiotics, and butter either. I was also amazed at the feet on one of these guys. Just about as large as my hand. Also, if there was any question that it was indeed mating season Carol was able to capture this XXX Wild Kingdom shot (look out Marlin Perkins). I really wanted to put some black tape over their eyes but my Photoshop license has lapsed.

After the bear encounter the previous weekend Paul and I where pretty curious to see if we could find the den again to see if Mister Bear was still around. It took a bit of searching but we finally did find the den. We determined that he wasn't home and then I carefully reached the camera into the mouth of the den for a couple of quick shots. Nothing to report in there but we did find lots of tracks around.

One last natural history pointer from Carols turkey research; notice that the center tail feathers on my bird are a bit longer the the rest of the surrounding feathers. This is indicative of a younger bird, know as a "Jake", probably less than a year old.

'bout time the turkey got the turkey. This is different than the last attempt when the turkey did the turkey. Hah!
Nice looking turkey, Charlie.
