My Big Fat Obnoxious Hail Storm
I came out of nowhere. Initially is sounded like popcorn slowly starting to pop but within seconds it was a deafening roar of ice balls pelting the house. Hail is not unusual but we don't normally get the ping pong ball size and larger.
Cathy's Prius was in the shop getting the Toyota floor mate recall fix so there wasn't anything we could do with that, but the brand new Escape was sitting up protected in the driveway. I ran outside and jumped into the Escape and pulled it into the garage. In the process I sustained a few good blows to the head but nothing serious.
It was over almost as quickly as it started but the destruction was pretty amazing. Probably the most graphic example was these old folding deck chairs. Pieces of trees and branches were everywhere. Cathy's newly planted tomatoes kind of took it in the kilt too.
The cost was the damage was impressive as well. In all the insurance company totalled out our roof, gutters, and trim, and awarded about $6000 in damages to the pickup truck and Escape. Yeah...it didn't get into the garage quit fast enough. Seems like I've spent half the summer getting estimates for repairs and coordinating various contractors to fix everything. The Escape just came back from the shop and I have to say they did a good job.
