Technical Difficulties Revisited

You may remember back in September there was a series of unfortunate events that resulted in the loss of my hunting photos. Well it happened again the other night while trying to download new photos from the camera using a memory stick adapter. This time several pictures were transferred, some disappeared and the remainder just got scrambled into what appeared to be folders with Chinese character names.

Needless to say I was bummed, but since there appeared to be something left of the files this time I decided to look for some file recovery software to see if the pictures could be resurrected.

Looks like there are a lot of programs out there that suck you in with a bogus "free offer" but to actually restore the pictures they want you to open up your wallet. Well after a lot of searching I came up with MjM Free Photo Restoration software. It's a freeware package, and to my surprise not only did it recover the latest pictures it also recovered the pictures from last September that were still hiding on the memory stick intact.

I guess the take away here is be wary of memory stick adapters, and if you do lose something download MjM Photo Recovery software. Not sophisticated but apparently effective.
