Haggerman Pass

A couple of weeks ago we took a hike with Bec up to Windsor Lake in the mountains above Leadville. It sits at about 11,600 feet elevation and is right at tree line. This was one of the first high altitude hikes we've done since she's been here and we really got her huffing and puffing on the trail. It was kind of cloudy and rainy this weekend so it wasn't as pretty as it could have been, but the fall colors were really getting into full swing. Even noticed a little snow starting to stick to the peaks. We camped in the comfort of the camper the night before at the base of Haggerman pass and then headed out on the trail the next day. Tried our hand at a little fishing but the fish weren't biting. We did see a couple of pretty good sized ones in there but they didn't like what we were feeding them.
It was pretty cold at that elevation and with the rain threatening to move in we cut the trip short and headed back down. On the way back we stopped in Leadville so Bec could see the town. It's a cool old mining town that was built in the 1800's and is considered the highest incorporated city in the US and the second highest incorporated municipality. You may be wondering what the difference between a city and a municipality is? Let me know when you find out. Anyway we stuck our heads into some of the old shops and then drove on home.
