Christmas Tree Cutting

This time of year you can buy Christmas trees on just about every street corner, but your next stop will be at the bank to take out a loan. In my family it's a strong tradition that you always cut your own tree. There are many sites in Colorado where the Forest Service allows tree cutting, but these are usually packed with other folks doing the same thing and that spoils the effect for me.

Fortunately for us our neighbor has land in the foothills above Central City. They have been trying to thin the trees there to reduce fire danger around their cabin, so for the last 7 or 8 years they have been inviting us, and a few other families to come up for an annual tree cutting party. It's a pretty simple affair...you show up find a tree...cut it down...then back to the cabin for a beer, or some hot chocolate. Or does the beer come first? Well I can't remember now, but everyone still has all their fingers so we must be doing it right.

Check out Jess wielding the chainsaw like she's been watching too many horror shows!

you should have sprayed some ketchup around the snow and Jess. I'm sure her parents would love that pic. :-)
