Blizzard

Colorado really got clobbered by a major winter storm over the last two days. Schools and business's were closed, cars were stuck on the freeway, the airport was closed, and I got out of work for a day and a half. All roads into and out of Denver were closed to the borders in every direction. As the wind howled most of our windows got plastered over with snow so that you couldn't see out. Actually very decorative. In spite of what most might think, Denver the city does not normally get that much snow in the winter. Most of it falls in the mountains to the west, but on occasion we do get whacked pretty good. A our house in the foothills we normally get more than the rest of Denver, and this was no exception. Our accumulation was on the order of 34 inches, and this morning it took about 3 1/2 hours to clear path out of the drive. Denver proper got about 24".

The girls were delighted to miss school especially since final exams were scheduled. School is officially out for the semester so we are not sure how final grades will be handled but something will be worked out I'm sure.

Today the girls lazed around the house, played outside in the snow, and built a traditional gingerbread house. Jaimie was quit proud of her gum drop trees at the corners.

It was quite funny watching the girls wade through the drifts. Jess especially had trouble due to her stature, but spent a lot of time playing in the snow. I don't think she's ever seen anything like this. Our dogs were a little at a disadvantage as well. Surprisingly, she wasn't wearing thongs today!

Tomorrow it's off to Grandma's house we go for Christmas.
