Labor Day Weekend

Wow! I've got some catching up to do. Time has been spinning by and I haven't had a chance to keep the blog up. So here's what happened Labor Day.

As usual, we met the Lubenecki's (Gene, Sharon, Cara, Jena, and Dana) up at Stillwater Reservoir for some archery hunting. We would be stalking the wiley wapati (elk) in some really dense timber at fairly high elevation, and this was Jess's first time on this kind of outing. She really go into the camo makeup, and went out on both an evening, and morning hunt. Gene towed us through the woods a break neck speeds (not how I usually hunt), and bugled a lot. Anyway, hunting was not good. The weather was hot and dry, and the animals were staying hidden away in the cool dark places. The rut was a ways off so bugling was at a minimum. We did see a few animals, and Gene lured one bull in, but he smartly stayed in the woods, and didn't show his face.

I towed the 4-wheeler up to give it it's first checkout drive on some dirt roads, but that didn't turn out so good. I got busted by the Forest Service, and told I couldn't ride it on the county roads, or in the campgrounds. Lots of BS about safety, and whatnot but basically all nonsense. I'm going to have to look into the rules but is seems that 4-wheelers have become the second class citizens of the vehicle world. I know that mountain bikes aren't banned, and just about everyone I know who owns one of those has broken their collar bone.

More hunting to come...
